My name is Flavie and I'll be your tour guide in Lyon
Lyon has a very long history. It was founded by the Romans in the 1st Century BC and quickly became the Capital of the Three Gauls. Since then, Lyon has kept a major role in France’s economic, cultural and political development. It was from Lyon that the Italian Renaissance slowly took over France. It’s also in Lyon that the silk road ended, making it the french capital of weaving with its famous Canuts.
Lyon is also known as the french capital of gastronomy, and wines from both Beaujolais and Burgundy flow in each and every restaurant, from the small Bouchons to the famous Paul Bocuse’s restaurants. Finally, Lyon is also now famous for its renowned Light Festival as well as modern architecture.
What are you waiting for?
Flavie has been a docent and a tour guide for 8 years. As a graduate from Ecole du Louvre, her love for Art History and History started very early. She later received her Master’s degree in history magna cum laude from La Sorbonne. Then, she lived in San Francisco for three years, where she led French groups for trips in US National Parks, as well as the main cultural and historical highlights of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
When she came back to Europe, Flavie moved to Rome, Italy, where she renewed her love for ancient history, as well as dived into the Renaissance period, its painters and its architecture. Eventually she returned to France, in Lyon, her hometown and she’s putting her heart into her visits to make sure everyone who comes to Lyon will return home with unforgettable memories, anecdotes and a strong willingness to come back for more!
Flavie speaks English fluently and is an official Guide Interprète National as required by the french authorities to lead private tours. Of course, her knowledge of Lyon goes beyond its history and monuments and she will happily recommend restaurants, hotels, shops or even travel arrangement so that you make the most of your time in this beautiful city.
”Flavie shared her knowledge of Lyon, its history, and architecture with an energy and enthusiasm that was beyond our expectations.” - Peter, 2013

This guided walk will start at the top of the Fourvière hill, during antiquity and will take you all the way down to the Saône river bank, thru the Vieux Lyon. This is a great introduction for first timers!
